Amstelveen, Netherlands – October 21, 2025 – FPS Flexible Packaging Solutions, part of the Al-Dabbagh Group (ADG), has been awarded the UN Best Sustainability Initiative Award 2025 for its FPS Circularity Hub, an initiative addressing some of the most pressing challenges in industrial packaging — reducing plastic waste, water usage, and carbon footprint.
The award was presented during the Leaders of Progress Summit, organized by the UN Global Compact Network Netherlands, which recognizes initiatives that make measurable contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). FPS’s initiative was selected among five finalists for its leadership in innovation, circularity, and measurable environmental impact.
Located in Romania, the FPS Circularity Hub is the world’s first and only large-scale circularity system capable of processing up to 15 percent of Europe’s end-of-life FIBCs. The Hub’s ReBU (Reconditioning Business Unit) extends the lifespan of FIBCs through collection, inspection, and cleaning for reuse — already reaching 150,000 bags per year and projected to grow to 270,000 by 2026. The Recycling Facility converts end-of-life bags into certified post-consumer recycled (PCR) resin used in new FlexiGreen FIBCs. The system also features a three-stage water-treatment and reuse process, saving approximately 60,000 liters of water per ton of plastic processed and delivering CO₂ savings of ~1.3 kg per kg of PCR used. Collectively, the initiative contributes directly to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
“This award is a recognition of our teams’ dedication to building a sustainable business, not a business with elements of sustainability,” said Hari Kumar, CEO of FPS. “The Circularity Hub’ will enable our customers to be compliant with key PPWR provisions, on a first come first served basis.”
“The Circularity Hub is more than a facility — it’s a system that redefines how packaging materials are collected, reconditioned, and recycled. It demonstrates that circularity is both achievable and scalable for our industry,” added Chris Poole, VP Sustainability at FPS.
