UV Protection and Humidity Resistance in Jumbo Bags

Understanding Humidity and UV-Resistant Jumbo Bags (FIBCs)

What is UV Protection in Jumbo Bags and Why It’s Crucial in Southeast Asia

UV-resistant jumbo storage bags refer to the treatment of woven polypropylene fabric with UV stabilizers. These stabilizers act as a shield, protecting the material from harmful ultraviolet rays that can degrade the big bags over time. Without UV protect can weaken the fabric, reducing its strength, durability, and ability to safely store or transport goods.

At FPS we understand the sensitivity of woven polypropylene fabric to UV exposure. Therefore, we always recommend protecting FIBCs from rain and prolonged sunlight whenever possible. However, we also recognize that in sunny and tropical regions like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore, avoiding UV exposure is often a challenge.

In these climates, UV-resistant Jumbo Bags become essential rather than optional. Treated bulk bags help extend the lifespan of the packaging, reduce replacement costs, and maintain the safety of the contents despite harsh weather conditions.

How Does FPS Provide UV Protection in Jumbo Bags?

FPS prioritize both quality and performance in every product we offer. Our FIBC’s are treated with UV stabilizers during the manufacturing process. These stabilizers are embedded directly into the woven polypropylene fabric, increasing protection against UV damage.

In regions such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, the climate is often characterized by high humidity and intense UV radiation. For instance, Singapore experiences average humidity levels around 84%, with December reaching up to 86%.

Similarly, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has an average humidity of approximately 80%, peaking at 83% in December. These high humidity levels can exacerbate the wear and tear on materials exposed to these climates.

Moreover, the UV Index in these regions often reaches extreme levels. In Singapore, the UV Index can soar up to 12, indicating a very high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. Kuala Lumpur also experiences high UV Index values, with levels reaching up to 11. Such intense UV radiation can significantly degrade materials and stored products not equipped with proper UV protection.

When ordering bulk packaging, you expect products that meet all relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements. To deliver on this expectation, FPS has implemented a Quality Program.  Through our in-house testing laboratories, we rigorously validate the compliance of material properties with international standards, ensuring that our products perform consistently to specification. From raw materials to finished products, our state-of-the-art laboratories monitor every step of the production process to improve compliance and conformity.

For example, incoming materials and semi-finished products undergo thorough testing, including melt flow index (MFI), mechanical properties (such as strength and elongation), UV resistance, and surface resistance. This process aims to ensure our FIBCs deliver the durability, safety, and performance our clients require.

Understanding Humidity Resistance in Jumbo Bags

Humidity-resistant FIBCs are another crucial feature for bulk packaging, especially in environments with high moisture levels like Southeast Asia. Exposure to humidity can compromise the strength and integrity of the bag, potentially leading to contamination or spoilage of the contents. To counter this, FPS Jumbo Bags are designed with features like inner and outer liners to create a moisture barrier.

For example, FIBCs with foil liners such as LDPE and EVOH liners are particularly effective for moisture-sensitive applications. These liners are made from materials like polyethylene and are either loosely inserted or firmly attached to the bags. Foil liners take UV protection to the next level by incorporating an aluminum layer that offers additional protection against UV light, moisture, and oxygen. Aluminum barrier foil serves as a shield, preventing moisture, oxygen infiltration, UV light exposure, aroma protection, and various other factors from causing harm to products. This makes foil liners particularly well-suited for premium applications, especially for goods susceptible to damage or loss due to fluctuations in moisture levels.

Foil liners are used across diverse industries, including chemical, food, plastic, and pharmaceutical sectors, where product replacement costs can be substantial. In essence, foil liners are a great option for preservation of products compared to traditional polyethylene liners, improving their longevity.

Advantages of Humidity & UV Protective Jumbo Bags

Adding UV and humidity resistance to Jumbo Bags provides several benefits:

Increased Durability: Treated FIBCs with an additional foil liner can help withstand harsh weather conditions, potentially enhancing long-lasting performance.

Reduced Costs: Enhanced durability may reduce the need for frequent replacements, potentially lowering operational expenses and increasing savings.

Improved Product Safety: Features like these can help protect the filling product from contamination, spoilage, or damage.
